Spring Cleaning Your Client Relationships

April 29, 2013

client_relationshipsSpring is here! Better Homes and Gardens® Real Estate has launched an updated Greenhouse for BHGRE Metro Brokers sales associates! The new CRM (known in the Greenhouse as the “Customer Relationship Management” tool) allows you to make a fresh start on building or growing lists of contacts, customers and clients to massage for future business.

Since our very livelihoods depend on relationships, this is a great opportunity to do some “Spring Cleaning” of our contact/customer/client relationship skills and eliminate things that clutter or completely undermine those relationships. We may be dismayed to find that some or many of our relationships are not in as great shape as we would like to believe them to be. Do we recognize any of these bad relationship habits: (more…)

Clients Need a Community Specialist, Not Just a Sales Agent

September 24, 2012

The more I meet with agents, the more obvious it becomes that clients are seeking a more personalized sales experience. Sure they want a home to call their own and you are an expert in sales, but they want more.

Home seekers not only commit to a new residence, but most of the time also a new business, school, town or state. And they’re seeking a community specialist to guide them. (more…)

Success is a State of Mind

July 16, 2012

I’m sure you’ve been asked, “do you have to go to work tomorrow?” My answer to this mundane question is, “no, I get to go to work tomorrow!”

I must confess that I’ve never been one of those people that leap out of bed in the mornings. I hit the snooze button way too many times before I’m in the frame of mind to embrace another day. But the minute my feet hit the floor, I start thinking of all the things to be accomplished. Things that I have to do and things that I want to do.

Rarely at the end of the day have I accomplished everything, but I don’t beat myself up over it. Somewhere in my life’s journey I came to the realization that success comes one step at a time. I also discovered that success is a state of mind and that my success depends on my state of mind. Moments Of Truth

March 26, 2012

Throughout the day, each of us have numerous moments of truth. What is a “moment of truth” you ask? A moment of truth is anytime we have an opportunity to make an impression on another person. That impression can be good, bad or indifferent. Many times we’re not aware that we’ve just had a moment of truth… so much of what we do is done without conscious thought.

In the business of real estate sales, it’s especially important that we consciously manage the moments of truth that occur throughout the day. Prospective buyers, sellers and other agents make decisions whether or not to work with a particular agent based upon moments of truth. If a moment of truth is bad, people may choose not to do business with someone. If indifferent, they’ll be just as inclined to do business with someone else. Moments of truth are really “make or break” moments. (more…)

February 20, 2012

If you’re single and on the “dating scene”, there’s no better aphrodisiac than homeownership!

According to a recent survey by Trulia of 1,000 single people, more than a third of women and 18% of men stated that they’d rather date a homeowner than a renter. (more…)

Avoiding Dangerous Situations in Real Estate

September 12, 2011

Real estate is not a dangerous profession, but when you’re constantly asked to come in contact with perfect strangers or enter locations without any prior knowledge of the area, you have to keep your guard up…especially when working with foreclosed or vacant homes.

September is Realtor® Safety Month, and I thought I’d gather some safety tips that I’ve found on sites such as Realtor.org, Inman News, and Rismedia. (more…)

Building Lifelong Relationships

August 17, 2009

Love The One You’re With

July 24, 2009

heartThe title and lyrics from an old Crosby Stills Nash And Young song (Love the One You’re With) depicts the mood at a recent agent recognition and appreciation dinner hosted by Metro Brokers/GMAC Real Estate for agents that had successfully closed eight transactions early in their real estate careers at our company. I was lucky enough to be in attendance and was privileged to hear their comments as Kevin invited them to comment on why they had chosen Metro Brokers to start their career in real estate.

Their impromptu responses were endorsements of the importance they place on broker provided services. Of course the residual benefit to the broker in rendering these services is agent loyalty.

Challenging Market Create Better Agents

June 24, 2009

business ladderBelieve me, it’s an exciting time to start a real estate career. If you’re in the process of obtaining a real estate license or if you’ve been licensed only a short time, and you’re asking yourself, “what was I thinking?” – I encourage you to stay the course.

Based on my personal experience, there is no better time to start a real estate career than in a challenging market. A challenging market creates opportunities – opportunities translate to a successful career path – a successful career path translates to financial independence.

In the Market for a Realtor? Learn What to Look For.

June 16, 2009

bestThere are many resources available when looking for a real estate professional. You can search the Internet, inquire with friends and relatives, and you probably know more than a few yourself. However, the real dilemma lies not in how to find an agent but rather in finding the right agent.

According to customer surveys, the obvious things to look for are: Honesty, integrity, reputation, professionalism, knowledge and an effective communicator.

Thinking about Quitting Real Estate?

June 5, 2009

failure-successWe’ve all thought about it at one time or another. Times like these cause agents to rethink their career choice. Some agents will quit and others will find ways to increase opportunities. Some are saying, “I’m not doing any business right now,” or “I’ve taken a second job,” or “I can’t afford to stay in real estate until the market improves.” If these thoughts have crept into your head recently, consider the following:
