Straighten Your House for National Get Organized Month

At the beginning of the year, there are a lot of things to organize. You take down your holiday decorations, clean up after your big New Year’s bash and even start to get all of your paperwork in order to file your income taxes. It comes as no surprise that January is National Get Organized (GO) Month, so there’s an extra emphasis on “cleaning up”.

After reading through a recent Zillow blog titled “11 Creative Home Storage Ideas” and visiting Better Homes and Gardens® magazine’s Pinterest page, I’ve put together a list of great ideas for getting Organized for GO Month!

Use Every Inch

I love this picture of a book shelf that extends over the doorway.

Seating and More

I don’t know about you, but I have so many pots, pans, serving platters and other utensils in my kitchen, I’m always looking for more room. This handy idea utilizes the bench seating to create unique storage.

Drawers in the Stairs

Looking for a place to put all of those shoes that just end up at the front door? Check out this solution using the space under each stair step.

Under the Stairs

Taking the staircase storage to a new level are these amazing custom-fit drawers. I’ve also seen where people use custom-fit cabinets or shelving in this area. It could end up being a lot more useful than a simple closet.

Tub Storage

I bet you’ll never look at your tub the same way after checking out this ingenious method for storing extra sponges, shampoo and soap.

Stash it in the Wall

We’ve all seen that extra wall space and never gave it another thought. Instead, look for ways to turn that space into shelves or a cabinet. This spice cabinet is perfect since it doesn’t need to go too deep.

Expanding Bathroom Storage

Do you live in a condo or small apartment? Bathroom space is at a premium, so you may want to consider attaching caddies to the inside of the cabinet doors.

The Power of Magnets

How do you get those spices off the countertop? Magnets, of course!

Storage and Charm

By using drawers or a lift top bench, you can dress up your window nook while making it more functional.

Also, don’t forget to add hooks to interior closet doors (perfect for scarves, purses, gloves, robes, etc.)…this is one of my favorites.

Put cup hooks on the inside of every lower cabinet door in the kitchen and then hang a pot lid on each one. Never have to dig through the cabinet again trying to find the lid. Put a ceramic pitcher on your counter with all your large spatulas, big stirring spoons, egg turners, ladles etc. Frees up drawer space and they are right there when you need them.
